A carbon footprint is the total amount of greenhouse gases emitted directly or indirectly by an individual, organization, event, or product, usually expressed in equivalent tons of carbon dioxide. To measure a carbon footprint, various methodologies and tools can be used, such as carbon calculators that take into account factors like energy consumption, transportation, waste production, and industrial processes. Organizations often use life cycle assessments (LCA) to evaluate the total emissions associated with a product or service from cradle to grave. Reducing carbon footprints is crucial to mitigating climate change, minimizing environmental degradation, and promoting public health.
